3 Ways to Save Energy at Home
Dated: March 18 2021
Reducing your energy consumption at home isn’t just a great way to be greener at home, it will save you money on your energy bills.
Here are 3 ideas on how you can cut back on the juice:
Heating and Cooling
Make sure your heating and cooling systems are doing the least amount of work possible. This means eliminating problem areas where heat readily transfers, like through drafty doors or windows, as well as turning down the dial. You can keep your home cooler in the winter, warmer in the summer, and make sure you’re not heating/cooling an empty house with a programmable thermostat. Upgrading your windows and/or installing thermal window shades is also a great idea.
Why pay to run something when you’re not using it? Unplug hair dryers, kitchen appliances, and other items when not in use. Turn off your computer and computer monitor at night. It’s just as sensible as turning off the lights when you leave the room.
Consider Your Food
It can take a lot of energy to get food from the farm to your table depending on where it’s from. Consider shopping from local farms and ranches whenever possible. Visiting the farmer’s market in your area, eating more veggies and less meat, and being aware of where your food comes from not only can save energy, it can be healthy and delicious too!
